The County Land Department cooperates with seven local ATV clubs, the U.S. Forest Service, the Department of Natural Resources, corporate landowners, and other public and private property owners regarding the management and maintenance of the ATV trail systems within Itasca County. The local ATV clubs, through the Minnesota Grant-In-Aid (GIA) Trail Assistance Program, work with the Itasca County Land Department to acquire trail sponsorship, environmental permits, and public and private industry trail agreements. The Clubs conduct regular maintenance of the trails and place or replace trail signage every year.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is located in south central Alaska, an area of the state blessed with spectacular scenery, natural history and an abundance of wildlife. The Landscape and history is dramatic and diverse. Trails provide access to this beautiful country.

Currently there are six trails available to venture upon; four new trails are currently in the development stage or planning stage. The seasons for these trails vary, opening April or May to closing November 1st or November 30th. All GIA ATV/OHM trails are maintained by local ATV clubs; one is maintained by the Department of Natural Resources. Itasca County serves as the trail sponsor for the Grant-In-Aid Trails, operating as the financial agent for Grant-In-Aid reimbursements and providing technical assistance to the clubs.
